CHOPSTICKS 筷

TIME:

2026.04.21 -

“CHOPSTICKS 筷” begins with a pair of everyday chopsticks, re-examining this seemingly simple object whose form has remained almost unchanged, yet carries a complex history of cultural experience.

From its early forms in Neolithic China to its spread across the Korean Peninsula, Japan and the wider world, the chopstick has been continually redesigned in response to different eating habits, dining rituals and social environments. Variations in length, material, cross-section and placement across China, Japan and Korea also reflect their distinctive ways of life and cultural memories.

The exhibition brings together 16 groups of creators from China, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Italy and Belgium. Approaching the chopstick through gestures of use, materials, structures, tactility, etiquette and accessibility, the designers treat it not as a static symbol of Eastern culture, but as a design archetype that remains open to deconstruction, questioning and reinvention.
